Our Study Circle
Many natural history and birding clubs in Ontario have adopted a 50-km checklist circle, having followed the lead of the Ottawa Field-Naturalists' Club which created the first official 30-mile circle in 1895. This circle is used to produce checklists for birds, wild flowers, butterflies, ...
The five counties (the United counties of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry, and Prescott-Russell) make up the major portion of the circle. When looking at the map you will notice that parts of Western Quebec and Northern New-York are also part of the circle. This 5 counties circle is the official study area of the Vankleek Hill Nature Society (established in 1977).
